Expectations 2

(for Participants)

Be Studious: Every GEM must have good school attendance and must maintain a 2.5 grade point average. You are obligated to consistently improve your grades each nine weeks. You must turn in all classroom homework assignments on time, and always do your best.

Be Committed: You must attend the Saturday Assemblies from 9AM to 12PM at First Baptist Bracktown Church (All absences must be excused). Be prompt. Be prepared. Be a polite and positive participant. Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively.

Be Disciplined: Exercise self-control. You must limit non-educational media (particularly specific television shows)-be focused on obtaining knowledge that will add value to your life. We expect you to read one book per month and be prepared to participate in a book discussion. We will provide a suggested reading list. The key to knowledge is not found in watching the television or playing video games, but in reading. Reading will increase your vocabulary and your knowledge base. The first book that you must read is entitled, * "Don't Give It Away!" By Iyanla Vanzant. We will provide this book for you!

Be Respectful: You must respect yourself, your environment, your fellow classmates, and your instructors at all times. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Simply put, be kind to each other. Honor the ideas and opinions of others. You must be neat and groomed everyday and maintain good conduct in the home, school, and community. Value yourself. Be honest, ethical, and practice strong moral values.

Be Responsible: The Oxford Dictionary defines responsible in this way: “Liable to be called into account, (2) morally accountable for one’s action, capable of rational conduct.” Act rationally; choose wisely. Recognize your own role in building a fun and productive community of learners. Understand there will be consequences, both good and bad, for your actions. Be a problem solver, not the problem. Be responsible with property and belongings whether it’s yours or someone else’s.

Be Safe: Be conscious of your surroundings and your company. This academy will provide a safe haven for its participants, volunteers, and guests. We will not tolerate, nor should you, any behavior that takes away from the safety of our academy.

Be Cooperative: Be open to new ideas and activities. Be mature; work through your fear of the unknown. You may find that accepting new challenges is half the fun. Our world demands that you work well with others. Think and then choose wisely. Use your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change.

Be Productive: Challenge yourself to be creative. While you are blessed to be fully capable- use your time wisely. Offer to help and be a good and hard worker.

*Failure to meet the above expectations may result in immediate suspension or expulsion.*

*"Don't Give It Away!" is an experiential learning process which places one in touch with emotional and mental patterning which may inhibit the ability to live up to one's potential.
